It has been a while since we posted anything regarding health issues, so here it is!
People used to say that, those who sleep a lot are lazy and fat. But thats not necessarily the case anymore.
A new study revealed that, having less than 7 hours of sleep will promote genetic influences associated with weight gaining.
The study was based on analyzing sleeping patterns and genetic markers of 1,088 pairs of twins. The results indicated that, those who had less than seven hours of sleep are 2x more likely to experience the genetic effects that promotes weight gaining, comparing to those who had more than nine hours of sleep.
In the conclusion of the study, it stated,”Shorter sleep duration is associated with increased BMI and increased genetic influences on BMI, suggesting that shorter sleep duration increases expression of genetic risks for high body weight. At the same time, longer sleep duration may suppress genetic influences on body weight. Future research aiming to identify specific genotypes for BMI may benefit by considering the moderating role of sleep duration.”
I can’t stress how crucial it is to have a normal and stabilized sleeping pattern. I am pretty sure most of us experienced times where we slept too much, and felt very tired upon waking up. At the same time, I am also sure most us experienced staying up all night long(especially during exam periods!).
