When the FBI searched his apartment, there were also 10 gallons of gasoline. It is very likely that it was intended to serve as an catalyst to any fire, in the event of explosions. The University of Colorado is now assisting government authorities to determine whether Holmes used his position as a graduate student to order materials used in the deadly booby traps at his apartment. According to University of Colorado, Holmes was a quiet and intellectually gifted neuroscience student.
Six months before the shooting, Holmes legally bought 6,000 rounds of ammunition, an AR 15 assault rifle, a shotgun, and two 40-caliber Glock handguns. In the mass murder, Holmes used a rifle, shotgun, and one of the handguns. While he was in the process of buying ammunitions and weapons, he was also in the process of dropping out the University of Colorado’s graduate science program in Aurora. The University of Colorado School of Medicine declined to comment on why Holmes left the program.
