Earlier this week, when the Geneva Auto show started, automotive fans across the world witnessed the recently much rumored and hyped about Bentley SUV being previewed at the Geneva Auto Show.

Many fans were met with disappointment and disgust.
The concept of a Bentley SUV sounded intriguing and interesting to me as an automotive enthusiast; however I was disappointed at how bad the actual concept car turned out. I have never taken any courses on automotive design but Bentley as a brand is not supposed to be edgy, it’s supposed to be conservative and timeless. The styling is hideous to say the least. So many weird proportions going on that make the whole care look really messy. I would say it looks more like something a cheap Chinese car manufacturer would make, not the same car company that makes the graceful and elegant Continental and Mulsanne. So the biggest news of all for me today was reading how Bentley is actually going back to the drawing board to make a few revisions to this car to make it more pleasing to the eyes. In my opinion though, I think they should scrap the whole design and just start from scratch. I think the worst part is not the headlights but the tail-lights. You have a round bulbous design in the front, why do you break up the cohesiveness with sharp lines and square headlights?

Being an automotive freak, I can speculate that this Bentley SUV would probably based on the “Volkswagen Group PL71 platform”, the PL71 platform currently underpins the Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg and the Audi Q7. The speculated Lamborghini SUV would most likely be based on the same underpinnings as well, seeing as how Lamborghini is also part of VW auto group.
I speculate though; being a Bentley and having an emphasis on luxury, the Bentley version would employ a slightly stretched wheelbase for more interior space. The suspension would focus more on having a very refined ride compared to its Cayenne, Touareg, Q7 and future Lamborghini siblings, which all already possess very refined ride qualities to begin with.
The underpinnings sound good, now let’s all hope they redesign this horrendous beast and come up with something classy and timeless, just like a real Bentley.
What do you guys think? Should Bentley go back to the drawing board or do you like this design for being edgy and different? Please look at the source for more pictures and let us know on the comment section below!
