Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer- Worst CEO

It is pretty obvious how Apple and Microsoft performed as a company.
It is obvious how Steve Jobs is a freaking genius, and how rich Bill Gates is.

We know that Tim Cook became the CEO for Apple, and Apple achieved record breaking quarters.
But what about Steve Ballmer, the CEO that replaced Bill Gates for Microsoft?
Well, Steve Ballmer is the world’s 19th richest but also the worst CEO.

I will simply show you two videos regarding Steve Ballmer, and the rest is self explanatory..

I love it when he said, “Who said sit down!?”……

It’s no surprise that people love Steve Jobs so much more, or perhaps I shouldn’t even categorize the two of them together. NOT EVEN CLOSE…

Apple: New MacBook Pro, New iOS, New OSX!

New MacBook Pro’s are coming, along with OSX Mountain Lion and iOS 6, and they are insanely great!

So, here’s everything for the Apple fans out there.

The 2012 anticipated MacBook Pro, is going to be another one of Apple’s HUGE announcements. It is extremely likely that Apple will announce new MacBook Pro, and iOS 6, and OSX Mountain Lion.

The main focus on the update of the Macbook Pro line will primarily be on the 15” Retina Display version.

The new MBP(with Retina Display) will be coming within a timespan of 2 months(June 11th). It will feature a RETINA DISPLAY RESOLUTION, IVY BRIDGE, ULTRA-THIN design, USB 3.0.  It will also include flash memory to reduce start up time and to extend battery life.

New MacBook Pro 15" w/Retina Display(Left), Current MacBook Pro 15" (Right)

The retina display  is going to be freaking awesome. It will be 4x better than the resolution on the current MBPs, similar to iPad2 and the new iPad. Imagine a 15” on retina display is just going to be mind-blowing!

The new processor, Ivy Bridge, comes with support for USB 3.0. In comparison to the current USB 2.0(480Mbps), the USB 3.0′s transfer speed is about 10x faster(5Gbps).

In terms of the revamped design of the MBP, there were rumours indicating that it will be a merged version of MBP and MacBook Air. Unfortunately, this is not totally true. The revamped design of the MBP will not be tampered. In contrast, it will be a sliced version of the current MBP.

In order to have all the incredible hardwares under the hood of the MBP, Apple decided to remove the CDROM slot, and the Ethernet port. Apple will be the first to remove the CDROM slot, as it is no longer a necessity with the existence of the Mac App Store.

Oh wait, I just forgot to mention about the new graphics card. New MBPs will use GeForce GT 650M. “According to NVIDIA, this chip offers incredible dedicated graphics performance for gaming and other tasks, all while apparently being battery-life efficient. A card perfect for a high-end professional notebook.”

On top of the MBP’s hardware, Apple will release a new version of OSX, Mountain Lion.

OSX Mountain Lion literally merges OSX with iOS! Mountain Lion will come with iMessages, Notification Centre, iCloud, Airplay Mirroring, Reminder, Notes, Gatekepper, Twitter and Game Centre.

iMessage is not new as it is already available now. There will no longer be iChat, and FaceTime. It will be the end of iChat, and FaceTime will be fully integrated into iMessage.

The Notification Center in Macs will appear in the right side of the Mac. There are options to the Notification Centre so that you won’t be disturbed while focusing on your work, which is going to be a pretty useful tool.

Gatekeeper will act as an enforcement for Mac’s security. It is for people who are worried about security and malicious programs. Gatekeeper will allow you to choose 3 options of download levels. From anything you want, Mac App Store only, and to programs from trusted developers and everything in the App Store.

Twitter and Game Centre will be the same as it is in iOS.

Speaking of iOS 6, Apple will no longer use Google Maps as it developed it’s own version of Maps.

As for iCloud, it will include Reminder and Notes, this will be revealed in Mac OSX Mountain Lion as well as iOS 6.

Samsung Galaxy S III Revealed!!

Ever since the production of Samsung Galaxy S II, it had became iPhone’s strongest competitor!
Samsung and Apple took nearly all of the profits in the phone industry!

Samsung Galaxy S III has been revealed and it will GO ON SALE THIS MONTH!  May 29th!! (In Europe, and June in the US)

Samsung Galaxy S III features a large 4.8inch display with a display resolution of 1280X720.
In comparison to the iPhone 4S, the screen is almost 20% taller and wider, but thinner and lighter!

In terms of camera quality, Samsung Galaxy S III’s rear camera consists of 8.0 megapixels, and the front camera consists of 1.9 megapixels.
Samsung Galaxy SIII’s front camera also features a face recognition function.

On top of the face recognition feature, it also has facial, voice, motion recognition, and a feature similar to Siri, called the ” S Voice” feature.

For the face recognition feature, the phone will recognize what you are doing with your phone, it could tell if you are reading, or just browsing the web, and it could identify where your eyes are looking at, and it will automatically adapt its display brightness to make it easier on your eyes.

Galaxy S III and iPhone 4S

Samsung’s “S Voice” is slightly better Apple’s Siri. It has more functions in terms of device control and commands, as an example, you could just tell S III “snooze” when your phones alarm rings.

I realized one thing Samsung did really well on, which is recognizing your motions. I am not a big fan of Samsung, but I do notice the outstanding feature from my friend. When someone calls, they simply flip their phone.  With the motion recognition, S III brings it to a brand new level.
Theres a feature, “Direct Call”, when you are texting someone, and you want to call them instead, you just need to put the phone to your ear, and it will automatically call the person you are texting with.

There are also a variety of insignificant features, such as zero lag shutter, burst shot mode, and is capable of NFC, oh, and one more thing.. Galaxy S III users get 50GB of free storage for two years with Dropbox!

Wow. I can’t wait till Apple reveals new iPhone! iPhone must be insanely awesome to outsell Galaxy S III!
Aside the competition factors, the new iPhone will come this fall which is way later than Galaxy S III.

This year’s competition just got way more competitive!! Would this end Apple’s domination in the smartphone sector!?

Apple-Evading Taxes like a Boss

April is finally over, it is now may and a lot of people can now breathe because their taxes are filed and off to Revenue Canada so they can forget about it till the evening of April 29th, 2013.

Yes, I know we all hate paying taxes and it takes a lot out of our budgets but without the services that our government uses our tax dollars for, life would be a lot more expensive.

This brings me to today’s article which I shall try to simplify as simply as I can:

Apple has been on the news recently for employing elaborate corporate tactics to evade billions in dollars worth of taxes. This fiscal year alone, Apple is estimated to earn $45.8 billion US dollars which is a record for any American company. Last year Apple saved $8.3 billion US dollars in taxes out of a fiscal year and only paid $3.3 billion US dollars of taxes WORLDWIDE. This represents a corporate tax rate of 9.8%. Can you imagine how much they would save this year?

How can this be done? In a nut shell, Apple creates subsidiaries and offices worldwide in low tax countries to save on taxes. For example, Nevada has a corporate tax rate of 0% and Apple has a Braeburn Capital, a subsidery there to funnel its profits to avoid California’s tax rate of 8.84%. Braeburn capital manages profits from Apple’s sales into investments, every time someone buys something from Apple’s website; a certain percentage of that money gets routed into Braeburn Capital’s account. Similary, every sale on iTunes in Europe, the Middle East and Africa goes straight to a subsidiary in Luxemburg. Why? The answer is because Luxemburg has a lower tax rate than the rest of Europe.

This creates problems for lawmakers around the world especially the United States where most of the design and retail stores for Apple products are located.  If most of the tax dollars never reaches the American and other governments around the world this can mean precious dollars are not used for social services like health care, welfare and education. The state of California has already lowered taxes to make it appealing for Technology companies to keep money in the state, instead money is still being moved out anyways. To make it worse when the California legislature lowered taxes in 2009 thanks to lobbying led by technology companies like Apple. The lowered taxes are costing California $1.5 billion dollars a year, which already has a budget deficit of $9.2 billion dollars in the upcoming fiscal year alone. This is leading to cuts in many social services in California as well as a huge hike in University tuition fees. No wonder we are seeing so many ads on YouTube trying to attract tourists and their money…

The electronic age is proving it increasingly difficult for lawmakers to create laws to capture the tax money that technology companies evade. If a song is bought on iTunes, nothing physical is actually exchanged and the file goes directly to your computer and no borders are crossed regardless of where you live. The current laws for taxation are targeted at physical goods, which is why companies like Walmart have a taxation rate of 24%.

I was never a hardcore Apple fan but all this leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Apple is also not very well known for their charity unlike Bill Gates and Microsoft. The recently deceased Steve Jobs always believed that Apple donating money to charity was an injustice to the shareholders and that if the shareholders felt that they money should go to charities then they would do so from the gains of Apple shares.

I believe that all of this is fine, except most of the people who donate to charities are not the rich and the “one percenters”. Most of the donations to charities come from middle class to lower class people; people who understand the struggles that we all go through and are probably struggling to make ends meet themselves. Apple share holders are the ones cuddling comfortably in a cashmere bathrobe, sitting luxuriously in front of their living room fire with a glass of Louis XVIII Cognac in their hands. Shares of Apple stocks closed at $583 today. Only the rich can afford to invest in these kinds of stocks.

So yes, I am saying that the recently deceased Steve Job’s (May he rest in peace) notion of relying on the shareholders to decide how to donate Apple’s earnings is severly flawed. You may get the 10% of the “one percenters” who will decide to give to charity but that amount is nowhere near the amount that would be needed to even begin repairing the effects of evading taxes that Apple has been doing.

What do you guys think? Do you think Apple is right in being so aggressive in tax evasion of do you believe there needs to be a balance in giving back?
