Nguyen Minh Tuan, graphic student in Van Lang University, Vietnam, designed a dress that was made out of 700 glowing condoms.
 

The dress was made for Tuan’s final graduate project, named “Condom Normalization Campaign”. The whole idea of this dress to be designed was so it could create awareness to safe sex to the younger generations, and to protect the general public from STDS. He says the attitude of the Vietnamese towards sex and safe sex practices needs changing.

“Whenever I talk about [his idea], people repeat ‘Are you crazy?’ and ‘You are insane’ over and over again.” Tuan laughs.

Tuan’s project was rated the best thesis of the year. He claimed that he was inspired by experiences in his own family. His sister was pregnant at a very young age. “I do not want to see it happen to another [family],” he says.

Surprisingly, regardless to the oddity of the dress material, Tuan received high praise from many famous stylists: Style expert Lindsay Albanese, who worked with celebrities like Paula Abdul and Heather Morris, described the dress to be “done very tastefully. It looked like it was done by a big-name designer. I was very surprised.”

When I first heard of this, I was pretty disturbed by the idea until I saw the dress itself. It actually looks pretty nice-very flattering! I guess could see something like this on a runway, but not necessary on retail stores. I mean, what kind of image would I give off if I wore a condom dress during a cocktail party? “I’m safe, and also very prepared.”?
